Git ya some learnin dawg!

We enrolled Bailey in Obedience Classes. The beginner class is 7 weeks long. Although I feel we can do a lot of the training ourselves, I do feel that Bailey needs a lot of socialization. He doesn't do well with other dogs near by. We had our first "information" class on the 17th and Bailey's first class is this Tuesday. I am looking forward to it.

Update on Crystals, etc.

We are taking each day as it comes. Bailey is becoming more and more part of the family as time goes by. Sometimes it seems like he has been part of our family longer than he has. (since May 25) His bladder crystals are completely gone which we are thrilled at that. He had a bladder infection which seems to have cleared up. We are on a stronger antibiotic than last time. Within days he was better. We are almost finished the special food. We called the Vet today and she said that she wanted us to continue on another special food. Which if it will help him not have the crystals anymore, we are all for it. We will go get that food next week sometime. Until then, we will be having lots of fun with our new member of the family. He has actually brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined.

All is going well

Everything seems to be going fairly well. Bailey is continuing to do better and better. He has actually gone 4 days (and nights) without having an accident. He has went a couple of times on the Wee Wee pad which is great. He finishes his last antibiotic tomorrow morning. We still have several weeks on the food. He is currently napping beside me on the couch. Will update more later when there is more to tell!!!

Good News!

Bailey has came a long way in just the 2 weeks we have had him. His personality has started to come through and he is actually playing with a toy...Our good news came in yesterday. The Vet gave us another round of antibiotics. She said the culture that she took showed that the "crystals" in his bladder are susceptible to antibiotics. So they should take care of them without surgery. We were all happy to hear this.
He also pottied on the pad last night. He had gotten close before but last night we had total success...

Ruling the roost already...

Bailey is adjusting nicely. He is finally eating his food and doing things on a more regular schedule. We let him sleep with us last night and he did real well except for hogging the covers. Bailey is even learning how to play with some of his new toys. Susan is teaching him how to sit too!
.

What all dogs dread the most!

We took Bailey to the vet for a few issues the day after we got him. His nails needed some trimming, he needed heartworm testing and above all he was scratching and biting like crazy! The vet said that he has some allergic skin and gave him a bath, then rubbed him with a hydrocortisone creme. They gave him some flea and tick treatment and some hookworm treatment. Above that, he got a clean bill of health. He weighs 10.2 lbs! He is still scratching some so we will apply some more creme today.

The trip home

Bailey is a wonderful traveler. He stayed in my lap most of the way home. We had fixed it so he could easily get into his crate, his bed or my lap. We stopped often in case he had to go potty. We got home around 5:00 pm. Bailey wasn't quite sure what was going on but he is adjusting nicely. It is just going to take time.

The wait is finally over

We got up around 5:00 am with anticipation of meeting Bailey. When we got to his foster Mom's house, she walked out with him in her arms. I was in love. His picture did not do him justice. He is beautiful. It took him a few minutes to come around to us. David almost got bit. But within about 20 minutes, he was happily in my lap and we were signing the adoption papers.

We have arrived!

After 458.7 miles, and 8 & 1/2 hours, we have arrived in Ohio to pick up Bailey! We are exhausted and looking forward to seeing Bailey in the morning.

Road Trip!

Ok, it is 5am, do you know where your Minpin is? Ours is still in Ohio, and we are getting ready to leave on an 8 hour trip to get him. We have both worked all weekend, and are real tired. Susan is especially tired as she has worked night shift. We could have both slept in this morning but we are looking forward to Bailey so much that a good sleep will just have to wait. More when we arrive in Ohio!
